Goose
Goose
Goose is a three and a half-year-old stunning male German Shorthaired Pointer. Goose is a unique blend of intelligence, athleticism, and a love for adventure. Goose we have learned is also a bit of an escape artist. It's not unusual for GSP’s to "learn" ways to escape. They are smart, athletic dogs, and when left to entertain themselves, the "hunting" can look better on the other side of the fence. It's very likely Goose was left alone in the yard for "exercise." German Shorthaired Pointer owners know that while GSP’s can entertain themselves in the yard hunting lizards, squirrels, and other small animals, they ultimately want to be with you. If left alone for long periods, that is when they can find trouble.
California GSP Rescue has learned more about Goose in the time he has been at the Rescue. He has been walked on a short leash and a long line and run on a bike. He has met and done well with other well-behaved socialized dogs. He has a strong prey drive that multiple volunteers commented on. But mostly, he is a sweet GSP who needs a loving home that can manage him.
The Basics
Gender: Male
Age: 3 1/2
Dogs: Well behaved socialized dogs
Good with Cats: No cats
Kids: No young children
The Good Stuff: Sweet, smart and athletic. With the proper training, Goose would make a great running buddy, and enjoy outdoor adventures with an active person who has experience with the breed. He knows sit and shakes with both of his front paws. He is very friendly and likes every person he comes across.
The Challenges: Strong prey drive. Needs training on leash walk/running. Has some separation anxiety. He wouldn't be a good candidate for a home with a cat or small animal. He smells them before I can even see them and will pull on the leash to try to get to them. It takes a lot to get him redirected off the smell.
What our volunteers are saying about Goose:
Very strong! Wants your companionship. Jumps so high, very silly.
Full of energy, curious, knows sit , shake and loves getting pets.
Wants to hunt, wants to run and be free.
Leash skills are improving but still need work, especially if he sees a bird or a bunny.
He's really such a nice boy. He's very goofy and doesn't know how big his paws are. He will flop all over with his big feet. He loves going for his walks and spends most of the time tracking bunnies, lizards. I bet he would love working a field.
He is an amazing dog. He can pull on a leash but really not much at all, and super easily correctable. He has so much potential. He does jump up on you and that needs a little training but what a great dog!
He's a gorgeous boy!! He likes being around people.
Goose needs the chance to grow into his full potential. He needs someone committed to the daily exercise and training, and someone who understands the needs of a young GSP. The right home for Goose would be someone who is an energetic and active individual or family looking for an intelligent, active and smart GSP. A little work with this boy will pay off tenfold!
