Nova Is Adopted!

Nova was surrendered to us when her owner realized they did not have the space or energy for such an active young dog such as a German Shorthaired Pointer. Nova was all puppy. A very intelligent dog, who can figure out how to get out of a chain link fence (she will climb it and come to you to show you what she’s done). She can figure out dog puzzles and latches on crates. Again, just a very smart girl that would need someone to continue mental and physical stimulation along with basic obedience. We knew we needed to find Nova a home with an experienced adopter of the breed that could manage the exercise, training and making sure she had plenty of stimulation.

Joe and Martha are previous adopters. They had adopted their GSP, Holly Go Lightly from us several years ago, and loved and spoiled her until she passed away at 12 years old. They adopted Holly when she was young, so they were prepared for what a young energetic GSP would require, and applied for Nova.

We have received some updates, and while there have been some challenges, Joe kept in touch and reached out for advice, and we were able to help by offering suggestions. Always our number one question is “Is she getting enough exercise”? Even with Nova getting a run every day at a local school along with daily walks, short training sessions and swimming, there were some hiccups to overcome, but Joe was 100% committed, and he was true to his word on his application when he said that the dog they adopt will be going to their “forever home”.

“Nova is very friendly and well behaved. She is coming around slowly but surely. Knows the basic obedient commands. Still running and walking her every day. She gets one or two walks and then she's taken to the school to run for about 40 minutes. We have been working on training, and now she can sit on command, and shake your hand. She has some separation anxiety, and is definitely a velcro dog, stuck to me like glue.

We have learned to keep something that she could chew on in front of her and keep her busy to deter her from the teak furniture she destroyed. I bought her the four hard rubber dog toys from Costco, and she went through two of them in one day! We just have to keep persistent in her training.

We love Nova so much. She is our world, and knows her world is surrounded by love. She has been a wonderful addition to our family, and a joy to care for.

We thank you for helping us with the process of adopting her.

We strongly recommend your GSP rescue organization to anyone who wants to adopt this wonderful breed”.

Sincerely,

Joseph and Martha
