Helen and Maya Are Adopted!
Greg applied to the rescue after losing his 8 yr old GSP unexpectedly. He and Lorena have had GSP's for a very long time and knew the breed well. He applied for a female and was set on managing any dog that came his way. We introduced him to Ellie (fka Helen ) who had been returned twice as the applicants were unable to manage this rambunctious girl.
A few months later, after Ellie was settled, Greg again applied for another female which can always be a challenge. He was also managing his son’s 13 year old female GSP at the time, however Greg was confident he could and would manage any dog that got along with Ellie as he wanted her to have a companion. He came out again from out of state to meet Josi (fka Maya), a dog that was purely used for backyard breeding. It wasn't love at first sight, but only a few days later, the two dogs began to bond.
We thank Greg and Lorena for trusting the process, traveling twice to the rescue from out of state. They were committed, and no matter the circumstances, we knew they would be able to manage the girls. And they did.
“It has taken Ellie quite a while to come out of her shell. She gets more confident every day and Josi is super good with her. On a side note, Josi is also very protective of Poppy, the 13 year old when Ellie gets too animated with her. Josi will rush in and body block Ellie. It’s the cutest thing. Ellie just wants to play, but Poppy likes things calm and slow now.
We’re doing well and the girls are doing great. They are such an absolute joy, and we’ve settled into a few routines. Josi is outside sunning herself at the moment and Ellie is still asleep. Josi likes her breakfast promptly at 7:00am, but Ellie is like whenever, lol. Josi likes to lay herself across my lap with my morning coffee and I think she would stay there most of the day if I let her. Ellie barks at me when she wants something, and it drives Lorena crazy because she won’t bark for her. When Lorena gives Ellie a command that she doesn’t like, she hides behind me and I can’t help but start laughing, which makes the situation worse. She literally runs around behind me when Lorena tells her to place. Lots of work to be done.
We’re going to take them up to the mountains next week and we should be able to get some good photos. They have made such a huge impact on our lives, and we love them to the moon.
It’s really great to hear about Josi’s mate. It breaks our heart to see the dogs needing adoption and we constantly talk about getting a bigger yard for more dogs. It’s hard to have faith in humans, but we’re so very grateful for you and everyone at the rescue. I hope everything is going well for you. We’ll have to bring the girls out there this summer when things calm down a bit”.
Cheers! ️
